It is a continuation of a body of work from the same organic ‘source’ image called ‘Autopoiesis-Life’s Continuous Production of Itself’. Micro Macro SOS has been influenced by what seems to be more and more states of conflict and suffering, threats to or loss of habitats from the most microscopic creatures to the lives of whole communities of people. In amongst the hypno-glyphic graphic style & process of this work, an animal emerged, happily trotting along its path, its human companions and other recurring figures came too as did the SOS signal. It represents for me an innocence and wisdom to sense human distress and respond with compassion. This work is partly powered by the growing wave of concern for injustices and frustration in the failure of ‘powers that be’ to acknowledge the human dimension. It is also powered by my drive as an artist to re-engage with the energy and expression of inter-connectedness, to experiment, and to discover; what will be found if I try this & not that? Will it even work? What appears when you look through the layers, or at different moments, in a different light? What do you see? |
